Jerry Lynch

Jerry Lynch is internationally well known through “ A Silent Night Christmas 1914 ”, the really moving song by Cormac Mac Connell about The Christmas Truce in No Man’s Land during WW 1 on Christmas Eve. Opposing troops sang Christmas carols such as Stille Nacht, Adeste Fideles, Minuit chrétien, and It’s a Long Way To Tipperary. This song resembles Belleau Wood and Christmas in the Trenches. Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen are two well known poets from World War One who have written about this period. Jerry has also recorded a song about John Condon originally thought to have been the youngest soldier to die in the WW 1. One of his favourite pieces is Requiem For A Soldier, the signature tune to the American series Band Of Brothers with music by the regrettably now deceased Michael Kamen.

Two events during his career stand out in his mind. To meet the great Pele in Dublin in Dec 2009 and present him with a copy of his CD and to sing in a field in Messines on the Western Front in Jan 2012 was a very moving experience. During his visit there he was delighted to visit the Menin Gate memorial in Ypres and hear the daily rendition of The Last Post followed by Reveille. This is performed by volunteer buglers from the local Fire Brigade.
